Note (3/25/97): Howard Gardner has a piece in press entitled "Are there

additional intelligences?" It reiterates Dr. Gardner's definition of an

intelligence, "the ability to solve problems or to fashion products that are

valued in at least one culture or community" and restates his eight criteria

for qualification as an intelligence. The paper then makes the case for the

Naturalist Intelligence. It will be published spring, 1997 in a volume being

edited by Jeff Kane, _Education, Information, and Transformation_ to be

published by Prentice-Hall (Engelwood Cliffs, NJ).
